Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Large (61lb +) | Female | spayed | 12 years and 8 months old | 71 lbs

13 year old female begel pitbuul lab mix. Found what thought was a fatty skin tag on outside of tail. She got it caught on something outside that tore it off left it bleeding. I applied pressure than cleaned it and put bag balm on it with bandages to keep it clean. It has not bleed through and she is acting normal. What else should I do? Don’t think she’s in much pain since she did not move while I bandaged it.

Poor Pixie! If the wound is small, she may be able to heal it on her own. Check to make sure there’s no evidence of any gaping or deep tears. Otherwise make sure to keep the area clean and dry. You must make sure she does not lick the area or cause further trauma. An Elizabethan collar worn at all times will prevent licking.Check it every day for redness swelling or discharge as this would indicate infection. Typical wound healing is 10 to 14 days. If something seems abnormal, make sure to have her examined by the veterinarian. I hope this helps and please feel free to post any additional questions.
