My puppy won't eat, vomited, has swollen jaw. Is it teething?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | West Highland White Terrier | Male | unneutered | 5 months and 4 days old | 13.227 lbs

My 5 month old has been off his food since Thursday and was sick twice on sunday. He ate all his food on Monday and was quite playful but hasn’t wanted to eat again today. He will eat wet food which we are mixing with his dry but is picking the dry food out and leaving it. He has been teething and I noticed yesterday that he has a bloody gum where the big teeth are coming through. Also today I noticed a swollen lymph gland on the left side under his jaw. He is happy and wagging his tail mostly.

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I'm sorry to hear Whisky has been feeling under the weather. Inappetence, vomiting and swelling in the neck are unusual in a dog his age; I would recommend he be evaluated by his regular veterinarian to see if there is an underlying issue going on that needs to be addressed beyond teething, as with any young animal, we would want to catch it early to try to prevent it from becoming worse. Good luck!
