My dog is sneezing uncontrollably and hitting his head. What's wrong?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Male | neutered | 20 lbs

My dog is sneezing uncontrollably, up to 20 times and its rapid and he loses control of his head. He hit it on the floor and bit his tongue. He walks around making an odd face like a human right before a big sneeze.

Excessive sneezing like this could be a sign of foreign material in the nasal cavity (sometimes a piece of fluff or plant material can get stuck), or potentially a nasal polyp, tumor or infection. If this extreme sneezing continues I'd recommend having your vet examine Pilsner - they might recommend sedation for a nasal flush and exam.
