My cat was in a fight. Do his wounds need vet care or antibiotics?

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Male | neutered | 7 years and 5 months old | 15.4 lbs

My cat was in a fight this morning. Scratch on nose and small wound on leg (did bleed). Is it necessary to take him for an atibiotic shot? Thank you

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Levi. Yes, I recommend that you seek veterinary care for him. Fight wounds can easily result in abscess formation if left untreated. He will need to the wounds cleaned and evaluated to determine if antibiotics alone will be sufficient or if he would need surgery. I hope this information helps!

    If there is a small wound secondary to a fight I always recommend starting antibiotics since bite wounds are so prone to infection even if they seem to heal well. I would recommend seeing a vet for them to examine the wounds as well - sometimes what appears to be a small wound on the surface is more extensive beneath the skin.
