My gerbil has a stomach mass and is acting strange. What should I do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

My gerbil has a mass on her lower stomach and has been acting strange. Not eating her food, and staying in the corner behind her wheel. Not sure what’s going on with her... the mass is soft but she jumps when I touch it.. I’m afraid that she might be in pain. What should I do??

Ideally, you should have her physically examined by your veterinarian. An exam and may diagnostics, such as a fine needle aspirate, may determine what the mass is and if it is dangerous. For now, keep the cage clean, dry and warm and keep Mitzi as stress free as possible.
