My finch has a swollen eye and open mouth breathing. What's wrong?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Bird | Finch | Male | unneutered

My male finch has a swollen, watery eye, is clacking with his beak, his song is higher, he breathing with his mouth open, rocking back and forth on his perch although not distressed, just calmer than usual. Also the black spots at the top of his beak became thicker. What could this be? Thank you.

Thanks for reaching out about Zeebie. By the description, sounds like an upper/lower respiratory condition. The swelling around the eye is probably a sinus infection. Open mouth breathing, clacking and rocking are signs of difficulty inhaling. A veterinary visit is needed, ASAP. Good luck.
