My dog is shaking, twitching, and seems paralyzed. What should I do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Female | unspayed | 1 year and 9 months old | 18.5 lbs

Lola has been profusely shaking, she imitates the looks of a human having a seizure almost. Her motor skills have gone out the window. She threw up once. She seems very sensitive to sound and movement. It makes her jerk or twitch at, even, me sniffling my nose. I believe she got into something, not sure what. She is laying here and looks like she has locked-in syndrome. It's been going on for almost 2 hours. She seems paralyzed and I feel helpless. No rat poison has been ingested, none in house.

This sounds serious and she needs to see the veterinarian asap. Definitely a toxin, drug exposure or infection in her nervous system could cause these signs and they all need treatment quickly. Be careful moving her and keep the environment around her quiet, calm and dark to avoid stimulation. Best of luck and please feel free to post any additional questions.
