My active dog is suddenly tired and can't move well. Is she in pain?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Miniature Bull Terrier | Female | spayed | 6 years and 8 months old | 35 lbs

Hi, My Miniature BullTerrier is always very active and energetic, today she woke up and she was fine but like around 2pm I was going to play with her with treats but she looked very tired, very lazy, she didn’t want to play, she can’t run very well, she can’t stand nor jump. When she sits down she looks like her legs are being in pain, she doesn’t want to jump to the sofa, it looks like her lower back is giving her a hard time. I’m not sure tho, she haven’t fall, she hasn’t been hitting. Thx you

I agree, it does sound like poor Chiquita is in pain. I recommend resting her for the next 48 hours. No running, jumping, or playing. Take her out to toilet on a leash, and bring her right back in when she's done. If she still appears painful after this time, then I would take her into the vet for an exam. The vet can diagnose where the pain is coming from, and can dictate a treatment plan for it. She may also benefit from some pain medications, which the vet can prescribe. Please do not give her any human pain medications, as many are toxic to dogs and can be fatal if given. Best of luck.
