My dog's poop is yellow/orange after diarrhea meds. Vet needed?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Shih Tzu | Male | neutered | 6 years and 1 month old | 12 lbs

My dog had diarrhea but stool has changed to a yellow or orange today after taking virbantel and endosorb last night. Is that causing it or should I seek a vet again?

Hello, thank you for your question about Romeo. It is possible that the color change could be secondary to one of the medications as these can often lead to change after digestion in the GI tract. If the diarrhea continues in spite of these treatments I would recommend having Romeo rechecked by your veterinarian so that they can consider adding additional medications such as an antibiotic/anti-diarrheal such as metronidazole. Hope this helps, good luck!

We are having technical issues so unfortunately your photo didn't come through. The change in the color is most likely due to the medication and change in Zeus's diet. As long as he's feeling better and the stool is firming up I wouldn't worry about the color. Please finish the medication and gradually go back to his regular diet when the diarrhea has resolved. If they weren't able to exam a stool sample for parasites because of the diarrhea I would have one done when he is normal to make sure he does not have intestinal worms that could have contributed to the diarrhea. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach to help you care for Zeus.
