What's a dachshund's lifespan? When are they senior & do minis live longer?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Dachshund | Male | neutered | 6 years and 9 months old | 16 lbs

When is a dachshund considered a "senior"? Also, what is the average life span? Do mini dachshunds live longer than standard ones?

Hello, I have seen Dachshunds live in the upwards of 13-17 years of age. They are generally consider senior dogs after 8 years of age. There isn't evidence to support that minis live longer than standards. Its likely that in reality they live about the same lifespan on average. Hope this helps and best of luck.
