What causes a cat to excessively groom and scratch until skin is raw?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Siamese | Female | unspayed | 5 months and 14 days old | 5 lbs

Hi. I have a Siamese cross oriental girl. She’s not one yet. She has a skin problem and I’ve been to two vets with not much help. She excessively grooms and scratches until her skin is raw. And If she over grooms an area it also swells. She’s on a hypoallergenic grain free diet As this is what the vet told me to do not helping at all. She’s upto date on all jabs and fleeing and worming but hasn’t been spayed. Please help

Blu could be allergic to something in the environment or she might have an external parasite or autoimmune disease. You could recheck with your vet to see if there are other tests or treatments they might recommend or ask about referral to a veterinary dermatologist.
