Poor Oakley! He needs to see the veterinarian. The odor is likely due to secondary bacterial or yeast infection. The primary problem is likely skin mites or an allergy but thyroid disease is possible. He needs medications and likely a medicated shampoo. You also need to know the underlying cause or this is not likely to go away. Best of luck and please feel free to post any additional questions.

Hi there and thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach to address your concern. Based on the photos and description and seeing that Oakley is 8 months of age, this could potentially be a skin parasite that needs a different type of treatment. If Oakley's skin was not checked for skin parasites, I would recommend taking him back to the veterinarian to have his skin checked for skin parasites so that the most appropriate treatment recommendations can be made. If the skin testing is negative for skin parasites, this may be another skin infection that needs antibiotic therapy. I hope this helps! Please let me know if you have any other questions or concerns and I would be more than happy to help you further.
