My dog is throwing up partially digested food and eating dirt. What to do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Female | unspayed | 7 months and 22 days old | 50 lbs

My dog has recently begun throwing up at random. It will be large quantities of only partially digested food. Today there was a small amount of foam as well. I tried to take her outside and she keeps grazing like a cow or licking at dirt. She has had no food changes and everything I give her I try to keep high quality with few ingredients. I'm at a loss of what to do

I can give you a home remedy for Twix to see if that helps. Withhold food for 8 hours, then feed a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in his normal diet. If the vomiting continues in the absence of food, he vomits the bland diet, develops diarrhea, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, he will need to see a vet right away. I hope this helps!
