My dog has an open sore on her tail. Should I put Neosporin on it?

Lilly my dog had a bump on her tail that has opened and looks like a sore. Can I put neosporene on it? Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Female | spayed | 10 years and 10 months old | 16 lbs

It depends on what it is exactly. if the sore appears to be red, inflamed, draining, or has discharge coming from it, I'd recommend holding off on the neosporin and seeing your veterinarian to have it fully evaluated. Lilly may need a prescription medication from her vet in order for it to properly heal.
