Puppy has a painful, soft lump on rib. Is an urgent vet visit needed?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Large (61lb +) | Male | 5 months and 5 days old | 50 lbs

My 5m. Went outside, I thought he fell on ice because is right leg hurts. This morning he had a hand sized lump on his right side rib area. It hurts him, it's soft kinda squishes but and it's movable. Do I need to take him in to see a vet immediately or can I get more money to take him in first?

Considering your description, it is likely that the lump is either due to the trauma so it is a localized inflammation or possibly could be an hematoma. There is no need to rush to the vets unless Cyrus is painful or showing other signs (like the lump getting bigger). If the suspicion is correct the lump should resolve over the next 10 days.
