Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Female | spayed | 12 lbs
My cat has been straining a little bit with her stool the past day or so. Her bum area is a little bit raw from this and sore. I was wondering if there is anything over the counter that I can use to help soothe it? I read that polysporin is not good to use on cats but that Vaseline may be helpful. Do you have any tips? She is fine otherwise, completely normal. Only seems painful when she is trying to poop.

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Penny. I would start by increasing the moisture content in her diet to make it easier for her to defecate. You can encourage her to drink water from the faucet or a cat fountain. Offering canned food will help as well. Sometimes a small amount of canned pumpkin can ease bowel movements as well. You can apply Aquaphor to her anus if it is red and irritated. If her bowel movements do not improve though, she will need to see her veterinarian. I hope this information helps!
