My guinea pig has an infected cat bite. What urgent care can I give?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Small Animal | Guinea Pig | Male

Billy and Kaz (my guinea pigs) have some wounds, which we think is from a cat bite when we wasn't looking. we have no idea how long they have had it. Billy's is opened. the "teeth" marks are there and look to be kind of deep. there is puss all around. looks real bad. Kaz's have scabbed over but still hurts him. what can I do to clean it and what can I use? we do plan on taking them to a vet, but right now we currently have no money. it definitely needs some care as soon as possible. please help!

Thanks for reaching out about your guinea pigs. Cat bites or claw marks are notoriously contaminated, often causing serious infections. A veterinary visit is highly recommended to prescribe antibiotics. Reaching out to local humane societies or rescue groups can sometime provide some financial assistance. But don't wait too long as infections can progress to systemic problems quickly. Good luck.
