Why is my dog suddenly not eating, lethargic, and tail tucked?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Large (61lb +) | Male | neutered | 8 months and 20 days old | 55 lbs

My dog hasn't been eating at all for about three days, he drinks some water but not a lot, he seems to be very lethargic, and he keeps his tail tucked between his legs almost always. It's like he's a completely different dog. Others, including a veterinarian, have been saying that these are behaviours due to him being stubborn or that he's suffered a major trauma recently, but nothing has happened! It was a very sudden change. I think it might be a physical health issue. He ate a little today

Poor Vader! You are correct to be concerned. I recommend having him seen by a veterinarian again since his symptoms have persisted. He could be dealing with an infection of some sort, or be dealing with pain. If a medical cause is ruled out, see the following links for more information about possible behavioural issues Vader may have: https://www.veterinarypartner.com/Content.plx?P=C&C=153&S=1&EVetID=290471
