When should I spay or neuter my cat, and do spayed females menstruate?

Hi. I wanted to know do female cats menstruate after being spayed? What is the best age to get Olive (female) spayed? Also I want me male cat, Theo neutered. What would be the best age for him for neutering?

Thank you for submitting your question regarding your cats. A female cat will no longer experience heat cycles or be able to become pregnant after being spayed. A typical spay and neuter kittens between 4-6 months of age. However, the procedure can be performed later if necessary. I hope this information helps!

    With cats it doesn't matter, you can have a female cat spayed at any time, even when she is in heat. during the heat cycle and right after the uterus is more fragile but in cats it has very little significance (compare to dogs that cannot be spayed at that time). having say that, it will probably not be a good idea to argue with your vet on the subject so you can either wait a couple weeks or go to a different vet.

Hello and Happy Friday. Thanks for submitting your question. Spayed cats have their uterus and ovaries removed surgically disabling them to experience estrus or "come into heat". Therefore, a spayed female cat should not have the desire to mate and will not come into heat any longer for the duration of her life. However, if the surgery was not performed properly and a small amount of ovarian tissue is left, then it is possible she could experience estrus, although this is very rare. When is the best time to get my cat spayed? Should I even do it? She's been in heat 3x already and she easily calms down, doesn't bother anyone or try to get away.
Since Baby is over 1 year, she can be neutered any time now. I would recommend that she is neutered for medical reason, first the high risk of developing mammary cancer which is malignant in cats and second uterus cancer and/or possible uterus infection. Think about her future health, the answer will be clear. Hope this helps !

The Vet after examine her said that Snowy is going to heat in a few days. Therefore, he cannot get her spay done right now. How many days after the heat, Will snowy be Spayed?

At 4 months of age you still have a few months to decide before she will be old enough to have it done anyways. But there are several health benefits to staying her. It can decrease the chance if manmary cancer in the future... if cats get mammary tumors it is 85% cancerous and aggressive. It will also decrease the risk of an infected uterus which can lead to sepsis and death if not caught in time... the treatment is an emergency spay! You will not have to deal with a cat in heat.. they are very loud and clingy and attract males from outside. There is little chance her personality will change from this procedure and the health benefits are worth it

I have just got 2 new kittens a boy and a girl they are six months old and have not been neutered and I’m afraid they will try and have kittens I want to know whether that is a possibility
Unfortunately, brothers and sisters will mate and the offspring may have health problems, so I would strongly recommend having them desexed as soon as possible. Female cats come into season based on the number of daylight hours, so your kitten may come into season shortly (often January to February). Tiger is 2 and never had the chance of mating or having kittens is it safe for her to spay her or should i wait so she can have one litter? And because she’s 2 years old will it be dangerous to spay her ?!
Unless your cat is a purebred and an excellent example of her type that will improve the breed by reproducing, I recommend she be spayed as soon as possible. Not only will you prevent a litter of unwanted kittens, you will reduce her chances of illness or injury due to her getting out of the house to seek a mate, you'll also eliminate her getting a life-threatening uterine infection and greatly reduce the likelihood of her developing breast cancer in later life. Two years old is fine for her to be spayed, the younger they are the less chance they have of developing hormone-related health conditions.

Great questions! At four months old, Oreo is old enough to be spayed, and I highly recommend getting it done. Even though she doesn't go outdoors, having her spayed will have significant health benefit for her. It prevents her from developing mammary tumors, 90% of which are malignant in cats. It also prevents her from developing a pyometra, which is a life threatening infection of the uterus that requires spaying her to treat along with antibiotics. It also helps you avoid the very annoying behaviors that accompany a cat when they are heat. They are VERY vocal, demanding of attention, and cry all hours of the night. Trust me when I say you don't want to deal with this behavior, as cats cycle frequently certain times of the year, and it's a problem you will have to deal with on a regular basis. I would call the vet on Monday to set up an appointment to get her spayed. Good on you for wanting to do it :-)

Do I really have to spay my cat ? Don't I havr another option . I had another male cat that only lived few months after spaying , he became so weak !
It is best for health reasons to have then fixed unless you planned on breeding. Generally you can wait until she is about 5-6 months old so she will not be so small for the procedure. I would recommend having a feline leukemia and aids test along with blood work to check the liver and kidneys prior to anesthesia to nake sure there are no underlying problems that can complicate the procedure or recovery. If you elect to not have surgery, you run the risk of kittens, cancer or an infected uterus. An infected uterus will require emergency surgery and cause extreme illness

Cats can be spayed as early as 8 weeks of age although most people do them between 4 and 6 months of age. I don't understand your question about comforting her. Are you talking about after surgery or just in general? After surgery she will have pain medication to take and the vet will give you discharge instructions to follow.

It's possible for her to have her first heat cycle anytime after four months of age, but it normally occurs around six months. She would have to be in heat in order to accept the male and get pregnant, but you should be aware that this can happen anytime now. It's important to have her spayed prior to her coming into heat, because the procedure is more risky when they are in heat. They also tend to fight with other cats when they are in heat, which can increase their chances of getting serious infections and contracting FIV and/or FeLV. These diseases are vaccine-preventable, so it's important to also ask your vet about this vaccine if she will continue to have contact with feral cats. I hope that helps and all is well with Bella.
