My dog is trembling and sad after anal gland expression. Is it Lyme?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | American Bulldog | Male | neutered | 4 years and 5 months old | 88 lbs

4 yr old American bulldog, Lyme positive. 1st anal gland expression 4 days ago. Since then clingy, seems sad, walks slower especially on steps and has had several trembling episodes like he's cold. And body shaking episodes too. Is this normal after glands done or related to lyme? Is he traumatized? Otherwise hes ok. Eating and drinking, barking and howling at sirens, chews toy, etc. How can I help him? (Previous question cut off so hopefully you can offer some advice with all this info) thanks

Thank you for posting more information on Jax, I was sure there was more to the story! If he is currently Lyme positive, I would be concerned that his symptoms may be related to that. This isn't normal behavior after an anal sac expression, and typically those don't cause lingering problems. I would take him into a vet in the morning to get checked out to be safe. I hope this helps!
