My dog is in heat. How can I prevent mating due to safety concerns?

Pet's info: Dog | Golden Retriever | Female | unspayed | 2 years and 8 months old | 66 lbs

Hi, I have a 3year old female golden retriever which stared her 3rd period cycle 3days back. My husband is planning for her mating but as he is an agreeable person and in past hit my dog for small things like sitting in an unwanted place to death, I am worried about her pregnancy. But I am not able to convince him not to go for mating as well. Is there any food or any thing I can give my dog to make her feel sick for few days in order to skip mating time? I know it is wired but I need help

Wow this is such a tough situation for you to be in. Unfortunately I wouldn't not recommend giving Lyra anything to make her sick during this time, you may accidentally make her very sick and cause her great harm. I understand why you don't want to mate her if you have fears for her safety. I would discuss with your husband having her spayed, not mated, and point out the many health problems dogs who are intact can have such as a pyometra and mammary tumors. A pyometra (infection of the uterus) is extremely expensive to treat, costing thousands of dollars in the US, and it would be best to spay her to avoid this from happening in the future. Maybe that will convince him not to mate her. You may also want to seek help from local clinics if he is hitting your dog, as that is abuse and not right. I hope this helps you.
