My puppy is biting everything! How to soothe his teething pain?

Is there anything I can give my puppy for teething pain? He has a loose tooth that hasn’t fallen out yet and he’s biting everything, including my ear, and slobbering.

Poor puppy! Soak a wash cloth in cold water and freeze it. Then give it to him, but make sure to watch him closely the whole time. There are also toys you can get from the pet store that can be frozen and then given to him to help with teeth pain. Do NOT give him any human pain medications, many are toxic to puppies and can be fatal if given. Speak to his vet about prescribing him safe pain medications. I hope this helps!

You can soak a washcloth in water and freeze it before giving it to Kane. That will be soothing for him to chew on it, but monitor him the entire time to make sure he doesn't swallow any parts of it! You can also get him teeth toys at a pet store, including ones that can be frozen. You could find out that's as soft as your hand, but freezing ones are great for teething puppies. They love the cold as it soothes their gums. I hope this helps!

Please do not give King any human pain medications, many are toxic to puppies and can be fatal if given. There are a number of chew toys you can get for him at a pet store, including ones you can freeze that will help numb his gums . You can also soak a washcloth and freeze it, and then give it to him to chew on. If you do this, you must monitor him closely while doing it. I hope this helps!

Yes you can purchase him teething toys from your local pet store. Typically these are toys that you place in the freezer that can help soothe the gums as the teeth erupts. Teething usually stops completely around 6 months of age.

I wouldn't use a raw hide for him to chew on. I personally dislike them because of the big risk of choking and obstruction. There are toys you can get from the pet store that you can freeze and then give to him to chew on. The cold would be very soothing to his gums. Until you can get to the pet store, soak a wash cloth in water and put it in the freezer to freeze. You can give that to him to chew on, but monitor him the entire time to make sure he doesn't rip or swallow any piece of the wash cloth. I hope this helps!

Hi! Is it okay to cut the teeth of a 2 month old puppy? Because he bites a lot and I'm afraid he could accidentally bite our hands while playing.
No, please do not cut your puppy's teeth - this would be very painful for him, and could also cause infection and other serious problems. Biting and mouthing during play is very normal behavior for puppies, and will resolve on its own with age. In the meantime, make sure that Pocholo has a variety of different toys to provide an appropriate outlet for this behavior - long floppy rope or fleece toys for tugging, plush toys for biting and carrying, and smaller toys for chasing and fetching. It can also be helpful to provide lots of different items to chew on - things like bully sticks, cow or pig ears, rawhide chews, and puzzle toys such as a Kong stuffed with peanut butter. If you are playing with him and he bites you, just redirect him to one of his toys and use that to play with him instead. If he bites your hands when you pet him, calmly stop petting and ignore him until he calms down. You may only be able to pet him when he is sleepy right now, which is fine - just be patient

Could you recommend a good brand of toys, treats or bones for puppies who are teething?
Get a Kong and stuff it with kibble or treats. Then smear peanut butter (make sure it does not contain any xylitol) over the hole completely. Put it in the freezer for a few hours. The coolness will feel good on M. J’s gums. In general King toys are a favorite for dogs. Rope toys can also massage the gum when he bites into them. If you go to the Pet Store or online you can find toys specifically for teething puppies. They can often be put in the refrigerator. As a sidenote, always check his toys for any pieces that he could tear off and swallow as this could cause an intestinal blockage. Throw away any of those toys and buy him new ones when this occurs. This is very common for this age since they are starting to lose their baby teeth and get their adult teeth at this time. Make sure he has plenty of chew toys and bones to play with. I like plain flat raw hides. They can have one a day. If there is something particular he is chewing on, you can put a dab of Tabasco or bitter apple spray to prevent the chewing. This will sometimes helps. When you aren't able to monitor him I would put him in a crate so he doesn't chew something that might harm him. Give him some time as he won't feel the need to do this forever. I hope this helps!

My puppy is bitting everything she gets a hold off even when I scold her. What are the causes and solutions for this?

You are likely describing teething which is basically a normal type of behavior when puppies are growing up and it is secondary to mouth discomfort as teeth are growing. I recommend that you get Lido teething type toys which you can get at your local pet store or online. Anytime that she tries to nibble at anything, you say no and give her the toy. This is possibly going to resolve the issue. However, it does take time and most importantly consistency. Good luck and have a good night!

Hi, thanks for using Boop by Petco! In my experience teething in dogs is not painful. Chewing on things is normal puppy behavior that they grow out of. If Guido is acting painful in his mouth then it is unlikely from teething. We do not recommend human pain medications for dogs and cats. They do not metabolize the drugs like we do and cause gastrointestinal upset and/or ulceration and can cause kidney and liver problems. We have safer pain medications that are approved for dogs. I recommend contacting your Vet if you truly believe he has oral pain since it is not typical for normal teething. I hope this helps and good luck!

This is very normal behavior for puppies and it sounds like you’re already on the right track. If Fry insists on biting you instead of a toy play time is over and you should remove attention and try again in a few minutes. It will feel like you’re not making progress if you’re consistent he will outgrow this stage. If you think he seems to be biting when he’s scared or showing signs of true aggression you should ask your vet about referral to a behaviorist.
