My cat has soft, bloody, large stools and is thin. Should I worry?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | American Longhair | Male | neutered | 1 year and 9 months old | 8 lbs

Cat always had soft stool sometimes with a little bit of bright red blood at end. Willow has always been thin. Suddenly his stooges gotten larger, not hard, no pain. What can this be? Don’t worry? Worry?

Hello. An occasional bit of blood in the stool is nothing to be overly concerned about, but having larger stools & being a bit thin is a little concerning. This may be an indication of some type of food intolerance. The first thing to try is switching Willow off any fish based foods, canned & dry. This means checking bags of food because many times a diet that is meat based will sneak in some form of fish meal into the ingredients. I had the same difficulty with one of my cats & this improved him tremendously. Give this a few weeks & see if you notice any difference. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.
