My galah's clipped wing is bleeding after a fall. Vet needed?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Bird | Cockatoo | Male | unneutered | 5 months and 24 days old | 2.4 lbs

My young galah tries to fly frequently resulting in falling to the ground causing his wing to bleed where it has been clipped by the breeder. It bleeds quite a lot. Should I take him to the vet? Could the clip done by the breeder be dodgie?

Thanks for your question about Elmo, and I am sorry to hear that this is happening to him. If the area is continuously getting irritated and injured, I would recommend having him evaluated. Your veterinarian may recommend a bandage, and can prescribe medications, such as pain relievers. Having the area covered and protected may allow It to heal faster. As far as the wing trim goes, you may decide to allow the feathers to grow out and not be cut in the future if you want Elmo to be able to fly. That is okay, but I would recommend talking to your veterinarian about how to keep him safe while flying! I hope that gives you a place to start, and that Elmo feels better soon.
