My dog still coughs after bronchitis antibiotics, is this normal?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | French Bulldog | Female | spayed | 6 years and 5 months old | 21 lbs

Diagnosed with bronchitis 2wks ago. She finished the antibiotics (1 1/4tablet 2times a day for 14days). The day after she finished it,she still coughed a little bit at midnight from waking up and also coughed a little in the afternoon waking up so we got another antibiotics, same as before for another 14 days. So she has been taking antibiotics for 19days but she's still doing residual cough. She coughs lightly in midnight after she wakes up. Is this normal? We r doing steam treatment&humidifier

Yes, this can be normal. Sometimes a longer course of antibiotics is needed to treat a respiratory infection. Keep in touch with Nugget's vet to update them on her progress, and get her into the vet immediately if she stops eating, the cough gets worse, or she becomes very lethargic. Best of luck.
