Will adding a female cat for breeding cause problems with my neutered males?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | unneutered | 30 lbs

I currently have two male cats who are a neutered and bonded really well I am looking to add a female cat to the family for breeding purposes but I do not want to cause territorial problems between my two current male cats. What do you suggest? Should we get one male cat neutered? Or do you think from your professional opinion that bringing a female will cause problems

Bringing an intact female into the house will likely cause aggression issues between them, so you'd have to keep them separated when she is in heat. If you only want to breed one of them, then I would have the other neutered before bringing in the female. I hope this helps.

While it's possible that they will all get along, sometimes adding an intact cat into the mix can cause some stress for the other cats due to the hormones. You may want to consider having the female cat spayed - especially if you are not planning to breed her.
