This is usually and commonly the result either of a trauma of an infection. Unfortunately without more clinical informations is going to be hard to give you more specific advices. A clinical examination at your local veterinarian is essential to confirm these clinical suspicions and treat appropriately.     Max is super cute! I don't think I would worry too much about the swelling if he is using the "hand" and is eating /drinking and acting normally. The Metacam is an anti-inflammatory and if that did not help then likely nothing else you will do will help either. Just monitor it for any increase in swelling. If you notice that or if he stops acting normally or stops using running around then take him back to your vet. He may need an xray. I hope this helps. Best wishes!
