Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Pit Bull Terrier | Female | spayed | 4 years and 2 months old | 74 lbs

She had a small cut. Day later scratched a quarter size of skin off. Then got crusty, then larger & now is quite swollen & inflamed & she's extremely uncomfortable. No idea what it is. Help please

This may be a hotspot, abscess, or insect/spider bite if just the skin is involved. If there is a mass associated with it then salivary or lymph node origin could be associated as well. Willow should really see a vet to make sure there is no abscess or mass. If there is an abscess it may need to be drained. If a mass is present it should be sampled. Either way based on what you describe antibiotics and anti inflammatories may need to be prescribed to help her feel better. I hope this helps and thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach!
