How to stop a rescue dog from misbehaving and pulling in public?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | German Shepherd | Female | spayed | 2 years and 6 months old | 69 lbs

How do I discipline my rescue dog in public or my apartment building when she is misbehaving? Such as when i need to bathe her, or correct her pulling behavior? She only responds to my corrective pulling when she has her pinch collar on.

You could try to walk her with a Gentle leader which is a head harness and makes walking a lot easier. When the dog pulls, it turns their head back toward the walker which gives the walker more control and the dog learns not to pull. I would also recommend teaching her the "look at me command" and you can use that command when she is misbehaving.
