Why is my dog's penis out after neuter surgery? When will it go back?

You I took 2 year old golden retriever to get neutered yesterday. He was double crytorchid. I had to leave for work so my boyfriend pick him up after surgery. And I’m just wondering why his penis is still stuck out, is it normal? If so when should it go back? Pet's info: Dog | Golden Retriever | Male | neutered | 70 lbs

Hello and welcome to Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Sometimes with the sedation the penis can stay out. I recommend you get some KY Jelly, or other lubrication, and lube the penis and put it back in the sheath/prepuce. If the penis is enlarged, very red or purple, or you can't get it back in, this is a severe emergency. If he is still a bit sedated it might continue to come out off and on for the next few hours, just keep putting it back in and keep it lubricated. Best of luck with Rico!
