Thanks for reaching out about Chimpy. Not sure of exact species but need to discuss the time and money investment for a primate as a pet. 1. They live to over 30 years so a long term commitment for these intelligent and highly social animals needs to be made. Being highly social, they are rarely alone, so should also be a family commitment. 2. Primates should have physical examination once yearly (just like children) and require vaccines to protect them, as they are sensitive to human diseases. Dental diseases are common, therefore dental examinations are needed frequently. As they are prone to dental disease (cavities), teaching them to allow dental brushing is recommended. 3. They require large areas for play and can not be locked up in cages for long periods of time. Foraging behaviors, puzzle solving and mental stimulation is required. 4. Need to check with local and national regulations on having a primate as a pet. Sorry to be a little negative, but as a veterinarian, have had many instances where owners tire of caring for the primate and attempt to re-home, which is difficult and can lead to psychological problems for the primate. Good luck.
