Why is my cat's skin twitching with red spots and tail biting?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 1 year and 3 months old | 10.58 lbs

2 months ago, my cat had ringworm. I had to apply topical cream on his wound as instructed. A month later, his skin was inflamed so I brought him back to the vet. He was given a spot on medication and an anti-bacterial cream. It got worse. By now, we ruled out allergy, bacterial infection, skin problems. His skin is twitching always, red small spots all over the body, bites his tail. His blood test shows normal. We even gave him a calming collar but it still doesn’t work. Please help.

Poor Baby! I would talk to your vet about whether a long acting steroid like depo-medrol may be beneficial as long as he is healthy enough and they don't think it will cause it to get worse. I would also make sure he is staying on a monthly high quality flea preventative as this can be a major cause for allergies in cats. Another option would be to ask for a referral to see a dermatologist or to find a alternative vet to discuss acupuncture or herbs as an option. I hope this helps and he starts to feel better really soon!
