Why is my 11-week-old puppy puking bile with yellow, slimy stools?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Australian Shepherd | Male | unneutered | 7 months and 8 days old | 8 lbs

I have a vet apt in 3 hours. My 11 week old Australian Shepard has been puking for 2 days and this will be the second night. He was regurgitating at first. I didnt feed him for 12 hours, made him lick ice cubes all day. Tonight he threw up around 4 times in an hour period just straight bile. His stools are a bright yellow and kind of slimy. He will act fine until right after he pukes then he will sleep around an hour or two and be okay again. He isnt running fever. Temp is 101.1

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I am sorry to hear Helix isn’t feeling well. I would keep your doctor appointment today. They will likely test him for intestinal parasites (so bring a fresh stool sample with you if you can) and test for parvovirus. If those tests are normal, they may take radiographs of his abdomen to look for foreign objects in his GI tract. Once a diagnosis is made they can discuss treatment options. It will probably consist of some fluids to hydrate him and medications for the vomiting and diarrhea. Good luck and kisses to Helix!
