Why is my bird's beak layered with orange and transparent parts?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Bird | Parakeet | Female | unspayed | 3 months and 3 days old

Our birds beak seems layered? The too section is orange and then the too layer stops and the bottom layer keeps growing a kind of transparent colour? What could this be? He is on a formulated pellet diet but he didn't eat any fruits or vegetables as he refuses to.

Thanks for reaching out about Peekaboo and including photos. By the photos and description, this is probably normal. The beak grows from the base and deep, therefore outer layers at the end of the beak are the oldest and last to wear off. As the keratin thins, the keratin becomes more clear. Keep monitoring. Good luck.
