Why does my female budgie have a crusty dry cere? It always sheds to a normal cere but then it dries up again

Thanks for reaching out. A thickened tan cere on a female budgie is a common clinical sign of an ovulating bird. After the reproductive phase stops, the beak usually returns to normal. If it doesn't, there is a possibility of an underlying disease problems and a veterinary visit should be scheduled. Good luck.

Thanks for reaching out about your budgie. The cere can thicken with hormones and become tan and crust. but this is usually an older bird problem, not one that starts about a year old. A solitary mass could be an abscess, tumor or other and probably should be assessed by a veterinarian. Good luck.
