Treats & Dasaquin for my dog with bladder stones on Hills U/D?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | American Eskimo Dog | Male | neutered | 10 years and 2 months old | 30 lbs

Brody had bladder stones removed. The stones were found to be calcium oxalate stones and we were told to switch his food to Hills prescription U/D diet which we have. There is only dog food - wet and dry. Are there any other foods we can feed Brody in conjunction with this diet - specifically treats? Also, is Brody ok to continue with his Dasaquin supplement ? Thanks!!

Hello. You do want to keep to this diet for the majority of his calories. Acceptable treats should make up less than 10% of his overall calories per day & include low fat yogurt ( 2-3 tbsp. 2-3 x weekly ), 1/4 of an apple, white rice, rye bread, 2-3 non-salted saltine crackers, 2-3 baby carrots per day, & small amounts of cooked beef, chicken & eggs. Avoid lots of meats & any high protein treats & no vitamin or mineral supplements. The daily Dasaquin is fine to use. Try to keep to the prescribed diet as much as possible.
