Why does my puppy stand up when I try to teach him to lie down?

I’m trying to teach my puppy how to lie down. He knows how to sit so I get him into a sit position and then try to bring the treat down infront of him but every time he stands up and just puts his head down to the treat. Considering this what is an effective way to teach him ‘down’ ? Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Male

You are teaching him the correct way, it is just going to take time and maybe a little maturity to help with attention span and focus. I would try a different trick like stay to help work on the focus. You could also catch him in the act of laying down and sa the command and govehim a treat and with time he will start to connect the two. Just stay patient.
