Hi I’ve had a cocker spaniel since the beginning of feb, tonight I was running to my dad and she was directly in front of me she ran the opposite way crying with her tail between her legs I wasn’t even running to her but she acted like she thought I was going to hit her I want to be able to run around her without her thinking I’m going to hit her I don’t know if her previous owners hit her or not she’s perfectly happy In any other way except when people run towards her how can I stop this behavi

Unfortunately, some dogs are very nervous by nature and this may never stop completely. I would be sure to show her a lot of TLC and stay calm around her for now. As she gets more use to the new environment and understands that you aren’t going to hurt her, she will likely do better. She may never be 100% normal, but hopefully she will improve. You could try some calming chews like composure or composure pro and a calming collar like adaptil. You could also talk to your vet about putting her on an anti anxiety medicine if needed. I hope this helps!
