My cat's losing fur after diet change. Is it allergy or anxiety?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Longhair | Male | neutered | 15 lbs

My cat is losing his fur...recently changed his diet to a natural protein diet because he was throwing up alot and now hes not but since then his fur has thinned out alot, his tail, behind, legs and tummy are almost bare. I am also pregnant and he has been acting more affectionate yet nervous around me. He has no signs of fleas, mites, no bite or scratch marks, or scabs...my other cat is totally fine so i know its nothing contagious...could he have a food allergy, or could he have anxiety?

This could be either one or both. Without seeing him in person, it’s hard for me to say for sure. Since the hairloss is new and since your are pregnant, I would have your vet check him out to see to make sure nothing else is going on. Your vet will be able to start him on some medicine to help his fur. Your vet can even start an anti-anxiety medicine if he isn’t improving. I hope this helps!
