Is it normal for an overweight cat to have squishy belly lumps?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | American Shorthair | Male | neutered | 20 lbs

My cat has become a bit overweight. He's about 20 lbs. In his hanging stomach area he has two identical malleable lumps in his pouch near his groin area. Again they are quite squishy. When he lays on his back they are hard. I was wondering if this is normal for an overweight cat.

Overweight cats can have fat pads on their belly near the groin area so it could just be normal. It could also possibly be a hernia, enlarged lymph nodes, etc so have him examined by a vet to determine the exact cause.
