My puppy ate a plastic sauce packet. Should I go to the vet now?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Large (61lb +) | Male | neutered | 4 months and 12 days old | 70 lbs

My four-month-old puppy just ate what I think was a plastic sauce packet, slightly bigger than a ketchup packet but smaller than a dressing packet. I’m not sure what was in it; he found it on a walk. I tried to get it away from him, but he ate it very quickly. I don’t know if he punctured it or swallowed it whole. He has a vet appointment in two days, and I’m wondering if I can wait to see if it passes or if I should take him in now. This happened an hour ago, and he’s acting totally normal.

Since he is 30 pound, he will likely be fine but you have two options. You can either take him in now and see if they can make him throw it up. The other options is to start feeding him some high fiber canned food to help him pass it. Your vet may be able to provide you with some if they sell it. If you don't take him in now to get him to throw it up, I would watch him closely for vomiting and not eating. Also, make sure he is having regular bowel movements. If you notice anything strange, I would have your vet take a look at him. I hope this helps!
