Are Munchkin cats prone to health issues? What's their lifespan?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Munchkin Longhair | Female | 1 month and 26 days old | 4 lbs

Hi, are there any dangers or health issues for owning a munchkin cat? I would like to get a purebred munchkin cat but am fearful that it will be especially prone to health problems due to all the myths. How long do they approximately live for?

This is true. I have seen munchkin cats that have normal healthy lives but a lot of this do have joint issues and can be at higher risk for other health problems due to the higher risk of in breeding. Their life expectancy can be just as long as other cats if you get a healthy one. Unfortunately, this is a hard this to predict. If you get one, you may want to look into pet insurance to help pay for possible future problems. I hope this helps!
