My parakeet's foot is bleeding after a puppy bite. What should I do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Bird | Parakeet | Male | 3 months and 1 day old

My parakeet has been bitten by my puppy on his foot. There is blood and he can't put his foot down on his perch, it is kept tucked up beneath his feathers. His front claw is also missing. Any advice to help him ?

Thanks for reaching out about Rodger. A veterinary visit is recommended to check for a fracture or infection from the missing toe. Either way, this is probably painful. A fracture needs to be set, just like in any animal. Infections need to be managed with antibiotics. Good luck.
