My Yorkie is lethargic, not eating, and trembling. Should I go to vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Yorkshire Terrier | Female | unspayed | 8 years and 6 months old | 6 lbs

My Yorkie has been very lethargic today, this is very abnormal behavior for her. She has not eaten anything at all day (although sometimes this happens, anyways). She has stayed in her bed sleeping/watching us all day, and when we begin to touch her or call her name she starts trembling and looks on with an incredibly guilty/puppy-dog face. It's primarily her hind legs that I feel is the problem, as I believe they are the source of the trembling and she's treating them carefully. What to do...?

Poor Princess does sound like something is off! Lethargy and anorexia are both very general signs of illness, and can be caused by things like systemic illness, infection, inflammation, or injury. I see that she isn't spayed, and a major concern for is pyometra. This is an infection of the uterus that is fatal without treatment. Because I can't see her in person to rule out a pyo, I would take her into a vet now. Please take her into an ER vet clinic; if there isn't one in your area, there will be a vet on call for emergencies. The information to reach that vet is found on a clinic's answering machine or website. Best of luck.
