My dog has discolored, scabby chest skin. What can I do before vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

So earlier today I noticed my dog has discoloration and what seems to be like a scab or dry skin on her chest area? I want to take her to the vet but was wondering if there was any clue or hint to what it could be and if there were any at home remedies or over the countering medicine I could give her until I go to the doctor this weekend. She seems to be fine and not bothered by it but it still worries me...

That looks more like a mass from the photograph. Palpate the area and you may be able to determine if there is a lump under the dry skin. If it is a mass, have your pup seen. If it is more dry skin, this could be due to many reasons including ringworm (which humans can get), or bacterial infection. You can try washing the area once a day with antibacterial soap and rinsing it well. If it does not start to improve within a few days have your pups seen by the veterinarian. I hope this is helpful and please feel free to post any additional questions.
