My old dog drinks and pees too much. Is it diabetes or kidneys?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Portuguese Water Dog | Female | spayed | 54 lbs

Violet is about 14 and recently started drinking lots more water and peeing about every 2 hours a lot. I'm sure it is not UTI. My groomer suggested blood sugar. I have her going in for testing tomorrow but just wanted to get your imput if this possibly happens to older dogs or what you think may be the problem

In an older dog, this could be caused by something like diabetes or kidney disease. Having Violet seen by a vet tomorrow is a very good idea. The vet can do a geriatric blood panel and urinalysis to check for the things I mentioned above. I hope this helps.
