My dog has a draining, crusty bump on her leg. What should I do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 10 years and 10 months old | 23 lbs

My dog has had this bump on her leg for about 3 going on 4 months now. It first started out looking like a pimple or an ingrown hair until about a month ago when it opened. At first it was draining but now it’s just a crusty bump that won’t go away. I’ve had to wrap it with a bandage so she won’t irritate it by licking at it. Dhe has been licking and chewing at it from the very beginning.

I'd take Foxy Brown (LOVE her name!) into the vet to have this checked out. It could be a cyst that keeps filling up, and it may need to be removed surgically to get rid of it completely. Have her seen by a vet in the next couple of days. I hope this helps!
