My dog has large lumps. Should I get a second opinion or surgery?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Female | spayed | 8 years and 3 months old | 29 lbs

Bell is a mixed breed 8 years old weighing approximately 30 lbs. She has developed a huge lump between her two front legs but under the chin area. The lump which my vet says is probably a tumor is about as big around as a grapefruit. She also has one about the size of a quarter under her front leg. My vet says to leave them alone until which time they appear to shut off her breathing or swallowing. Is this the same advice you would give. Would surgery if they begin to bother.

The problem with big lumps is that they get affect her movement. Without seeing Bell in person, I can't say for certain what I would do, but personally I would recommend having them removed before they get bigger. You can take her into another vet to get a second opinion. I hope this helps.
