Do pet tapeworms go away? My cat's keep returning despite treatment.

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | German Shepherd | Male | unneutered | 7 years and 2 months old | 75 lbs

I have a 7 yr. old German Shepherd that I'm sure has a tape worm. Do they ever go away on their own? And my 3 yr old cat continually keeps a tape worm in which I give him Profender over and over. It gets rid of it but comes right back even though I also keep him flead. I'm at a loss on what to do with him.

No, they don't go away on their own. I recommend giving them Drontal, it is an excellent dewormer that kills tapeworms. You can get it from your vet, so I would take them both into the vet to get this prescription medication.
