My rescue cats eat a lot but are losing weight. Are they sick?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Out of 6 rescue cats(2 adults and 4 kittens) kept in a very unhygienic place, 2 of the kittens died. Doctor initially suggested that it might be parvo, but the other cats survived and it's been close to a month. They are eating well, poop is normal, drinking water a lot and active but all of them have lost weight considerably especially 1 kitten which is skin and bones irrespective of eating well. Are they recovering by eating good or are they still infected? Vet states that all fine. Help

Parvovirus and herpesviruses (with secondary bacterial infections) and severe parasitic infestations are all possible. It will take months to resolve and I would consider them completely recovered when they will be efficiently treated against gastrointestinal parasites and regularly vaccinated.
